The beggar in the video admits right off that the Indians don't want to assimilate. So, they were offered a chance to take part in the prosperity of Western culture. They refused. Now they're poor. Poor by choice. No poorer and in no worse conditions than they were in the days before the Westernization of Canada. They preserved their culture and their ways. Those ways were poor. Hence, they are poor.
Apparently being an Indian involves embracing contradictory arguments in an attempt to make us feel sorry for the "plight" of the Indian.
